Mark Zuckerberg: digital space must be self-regulated

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes digital space needs to be regulated, but self-regulation is the best solution.

"One of the big questions for the next decade is: how should we govern the large new digital communities that the internet has enabled," Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

Zuckerberg also noted the cryptocurrency industry, which also faces a management challenge. Governments want to regulate this area, however, according to the founder of Facebook, the ecosystem cannot exist without some compromises.

"It's rare that there's ever a clear 'right' answer, and in many cases it's as important that the decisions are made in a way that feels legitimate to the community. From this perspective, I don't think private companies should be making so many important decisions that touch on fundamental democratic values," 

Zuckerberg wrote.​

He also expressed an opinion on the identification of users with cryptocurrency platforms. According to the CEO of Facebook, on the one hand, this is necessary for the work of law enforcement agencies in case of fraud, on the other hand, if the site is hacked, important documents of users can fall into the hands of attackers.

Recall that in November last year, Facebook launched a payment service in fiat currencies, available in the instant messengers Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp. The Libra stablecoin project, developed by the social network, is still facing pressure from regulators around the world.
