Research: 14% of young Japanese invest in cryptocurrencies


According to a survey conducted by the Japanese online publication Shin R25, whose main readers are young people, 14% of Japanese young people between the ages of 20 and 25 own digital assets. The research was conducted from January to March of this year. More than 25% of the respondents said that this was their first investment experience, 92% said they invested their free funds in digital assets. Interest in the cryptocurrencies 37.4% of respondents explained that it is fashionable, and 19.9% ​​paid attention to cryptocurrency due to their popularity in the media.

 As for the invested amounts, 34.5% of the respondents invested less than 50 thousand yen (about $ 470) in the cryptocurrency, the amount from one million yen ($ 9,360) and more could only be afforded by 10.2% of respondents.

Most of those who took part in the research admitted that they purchased the cryptocurrency at the peak of prices, in October-December 2017. And only 15% did it after a sharp fall in early 2018.

Nevertheless, 47.1% said they intend to continue investing actively in digital assets and only 35.4% are not going to do more.

The analyst in the field of the finance and cryptocurrencies Joseph Young has been strongly surprised by results of interrogation and has commented on it on Twitter:

"A study found that 14% of employees in Japan aged 20~25 years already invested in or hold cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. This is a surprisingly high adoption rate, I expected less than 10%, even in a leading cryptocurrency market like Japan."
